Getting to Know the AutoCAD Commands

The Draw Command Tools

These are the main command tools where you can create various geometric figures and items on your drawing. Each icon in the Draw tool panel has several options on how to create each figure or shape.

Line

AutoCAD

Line command in AutoCAD lets you draw a simple line or a complicated one depending on the line options on how you create your line. It may be though points of intersection, tangents, parallel or perpendicular to an object.

  1. Click on the icon or type the word “line” on the command bar.
  2. Specify the start point and the end point of the line to be created. You may choose the line options as well.
  3. Press Enter

Extension Line

AutoCAD

This line command lets you create a line that extends from both ends along the model space with no terminal point. It is used mostly when project linear objects as reference.

  1. Click on the icon or type it on the command bar.
  2. Specify the points of intersection or tangency that is the start and end point to create the extension line.
  3. Press Enter

Polyline

AutoCAD

This command allows you to create a polygonal line or polyline, which is a continuous set of lines that can be combined into one closed-loop object or figure.

  1. Click on the icon or type it on the command bar
  2. Specify the start point until the last point of your polyline.
  3. Press Enter

Polygon

AutoCAD

A Polygon is a geometric shape that has more the 2 sides and this is this command tool is perfect for drawing figures and shapes.

  1. Click on the icon or type it on the command bar
  2. Specify how many sides of polygon that you want to create
  3. Specify the center point, and if it is inscribed or not
  4. Press Enter

Rectangle

AutoCAD

In AutoCAD this command is used when creating squares and rectangles, although you can also use the polygon command.

  1. Click on the icon or type it on the command bar
  2. Specify the start point or base point, and the end point. You may also select from the options on how to create the rectangle whether using values of length and width or some other ways.
  3. Press Enter

Arc

AutoCAD

Arcs are curves of an open circle and can be drawn in different ways you can choose from the Arc command and its options.

  1. Click the icon or type it on the command bar
  2. Specify the start point of the arc or choose from the arc command options provided
  3. Specify the parameters needed according to the option selected
  4. Press Enter

Circle

AutoCAD

This command tool allows you to create a circle using different methods or options depending on the need. You can draw a circle simply by using a center point and the radius or other parameters.

  1. Click the icon or type it on the command bar
  2. Specify the start point or the center point of the circle or choose from the circle command options provided
  3. Specify the parameters needed according to the option selected
  4. Press Enter

Ellipse

AutoCAD

An ellipse is similar to a circle except that it is narrower radius and has elongated diameter. The ellipse command tool lets you draw ellipse in many different ways such as the circle command.

  1. Click the icon or type it on the command bar
  2. Specify the start point or the center point of the ellipse or choose from the ellipse command options provided
  3. Specify the parameters needed according to the option selected
  4. Press Enter

Spline

AutoCAD

This command allows you to draw a free flow of combined lines and arcs in one object or figure.

  1. Click the icon or type it on the command bar
  2. Specify the start point of the spline to create continuously until the end point. You may choose from the options.
  3. Specify the parameters needed according to the option selected
  4. Press Enter
